Blocking of the chest spinal column (BWS)

Blocking of the chest spinal column (BWS) and/or the rib joints

1. Risk kinds of sport:

Ride, wheel driving, kinds of combat sport, tower jumping, Bungee jumping, force sport, gymnastic, trampoline jumping, ski driving, gymnastics, rowing, track and field athletics

2. Function:

Movement of the torso in all directions. Maintenance of the torso, breathng in and out free of pain by expansion of the thorax.

3. Injury mechanism:

- Fall perpendicularly on the Steiss
- Fall on the head or shoulder range
- Obligation attitude of the head or torso into a endgradige position
- Raising of heavy articles
- Course in the car
- Sport in damp and cold weather

4. Symptoms:

- Movement restrictions of the neck and/or chest spinal column in one or more directions
- Pain with movement of the neck and/or chest spinal column
- if necessary prickle in the hands or deafness feeling
- Pain with movement one or both arms
- Hardening the neck musculature
- Pain between the shoulder blades
- Pain within the range of the breastbone or the ribs in front
- Pain in the kidney camp
Other pain causes:
- bony injury of the chest spinal column or the ribs
- Inflammation or getting jammed nerves
- Bruise of ribs or chest spinal column
- Illness of the shoulder joints
- Pulmonary embolism, cardiac infarct or other internal illnesses

5. First measures:

- Warmth

6. Diagnostics:

A physician should be visited, in order to exclude a being present from heavier injuries in each case.
- Roentgen
- clinical investigation of the chest spinal column un GDR ribs
- if necessary neurological investigation
- if necessary nuclear spin or computer tomography

7. Therapy:

a) Conservative therapy
- Chirotherapie
- muscle-relaxing medicines
- analgetic and decongestant medicines
- Physiotherapie (under expert guidance and self-exercise after arrangement with the therapist)
- with strong pain injections to the points of pain
- Akupunktur
- With german types of several ribs engmaschige control, since the lung can be hurt by the bone fragments.
b) Operational therapy
If necessary accompanying damage (e.g. volume disk incident) can require an operational therapy

8. Physiotherapy:

- Traction treatment
- Manual therapy
- Stabilization
- Massage
- Heat's application
- Ultrasonic therapy
- Back school

- Hydrotherapy
- Muscle strengthening

9. Prevention:

- move-fair lifting and carrying
- Self-exercise for loosening and stretching the appropriate musculature
