Extracorporeale Shock Wave Therapy

The extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT)

This treatment method, developed for disintegration of kidney stones, was used successfully in recent years in orthopedics . The shock wave has a pain-relieving effect as far as analgesia. In our institute, there are two shock wave devices available, generating various shock waves.

One device generates focused shock waves, which penetrate the body deeply with high-energy and therefore can be used to treat deep-seated problems.

The second device generates unfocussed waves, which spread radially and is also called radial shock wave therapy. The freely movable therapy head of the unit allows the treatment of large areas of pain.

The standard indications for the shock wave therapy include:

congestion and calcification of the shoulder Tennis Elbow
Plantar fasciitis

Suitable for this treatment method are also other syndromes such as Patellaspitzensyndrom, Achillodynie, tibia edges syndrome.

The treatments were performed on a weekly basis. Usually three to five sessions will be needed. The success rate for the different clinical pictures lies between 70 and 85%.
