Shoulder corner joint injury / AC joint

1. Risk kinds of sport:

Kinds of combat sport, cycle racing, motorsports, riding, handball, football

2. Anatomy:

Joint between collarbone and shoulder blade (shoulder corner joint), susceptibly to arthrosis after many smaller injuries.

3. Function:

co-motion of the shoulder corner joint with all movements of the arm, lifting - lowering - pre and moving backward - turn.

4. Injury mechanism:

- Fall on the stretched or spread arm
- Fall or impact laterally from the rear or above directly on the shoulder
- drag down by force of the arm

5. Symptoms:

- Within the range of the joint swelling
- Load pain (among other things lifting a weight)
- Pressure pain
- High standing of the lateral end of the collarbone
- Function restriction, among other things with lifting the arm and supports so-called piano key phenomenon (springy giving way of the lateral end of the collarbone with pressure from above)

6. First measures:

- Immobilizing the arm before the body (arm loop)
- Ice

7. Diagnostics:

- clinical investigation by the physician
- Roentgen
- Sonography

8. Therapy:

Conservative therapy
- Antiphlogistika (anti-inflammatory, decongestant)
- Injections possible
- Bandages
- Physiotherapy

9. Physiotherapy / rehablitation:

- Patient gymnastic/training therapy/ISO kinetics
- Electrical therapy
- Lymphdrainage
- Cryotherapy

10. Prevention:

- Avoidance of falls
